Why Use Smart Lists?

Smart Lists let you filter your subscribers so you can manage your communications effectively. You can create separate lists for active users and unsubscribed users, which helps you avoid sending emails to the wrong people while keeping track of everyone in your database.

How Long It Will Take

Cleaning your list and creating Smart Lists usually takes around 5-10 minutes.

Step 1: Access Your Subscribers List

  • Sign in to your FEA Create Dashboard

  • Navigate to Subscribers from the main menu

Step 2: Filter Active Subscribers

  • Click Advanced Filters on the right side of the screen

  • Scroll to the DND (Do Not Disturb) section

  • Select DND for Email is Disabled to include only active users

  • Add other filters if needed, such as tags or engagement

  • Click Apply

Step 3: Save Active Subscribers as a Smart List

  • Click Unsaved Changes and then Save as Smart List

  • Name your list (e.g., "Active Subscribers")

  • Click Create to store this filtered view for campaigns

Step 4: Filter Unsubscribed Users

  • Click Advanced Filters again

  • Scroll to DND (Do Not Disturb)

  • Select DND for Email is Enabled to show unsubscribed users

  • Click Apply

Step 5: Save Unsubscribed Users as a Smart List

  • Click Unsaved Changes and Save as Smart List

  • Name your list (e.g., "Unsubscribed Users")

  • Click Create to store this filtered view for reference

Creating a Smart List of unsubscribed users allows you to keep an eye on them without sending them emails, while still maintaining their access to any purchased content.

Step 6: Use Smart Lists When Sending Campaigns

  • When setting up a campaign, select the Smart List of active subscribers

  • Only users in this list will receive your email, so unsubscribed contacts are automatically excluded

Step 7: Best Practices for List Maintenance

Clean and Segment Your List

  • Remove Duplicate Contacts: Use the built-in Merge Duplicate Contacts feature under Subscribers and merge carefully

  • Monitor Inactive Subscribers: Create a Smart List for low-engagement contacts and consider a re-engagement campaign before removing them

  • Handle Bounced Emails: Check bounce reports regularly and update or remove invalid emails

  • Segment Your Subscribers: Group contacts by engagement levels or interests to improve targeting and relevance

  • Schedule Regular Maintenance: Review your list monthly or quarterly, document procedures, and track engagement improvements

Benefits of a Clean Email List

  • Improved deliverability rates

  • Higher engagement metrics

  • Reduced marketing costs

  • More accurate campaign analytics

  • Enhanced sender reputation

Note: Always back up your contact list before major cleanups or bulk deletions.
